Non Sighthounds
SHOT is proud to welcome non-sighthound dogs to experience the excitement of lure coursing! While traditional sighthounds are the heart of the sport, we believe many dogs enjoy the thrill of chasing a lure and we’re happy to provide safe, fun opportunities for them to run.

During our AKC trials, we offer “Wannabe” runs for non-sighthound dogs. These runs are designed to be just for fun. Giving dogs and handlers a chance to try lure coursing in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Dogs run the course once, solo, and are judged on the usual lure coursing attributes such as enthusiasm, speed, agility, and focus. Please check our premiums for more information regarding "Wannabe" runs.

In addition to "Wannabe" runs, our club also hosts ASFA sighthound trials that include LCI, which allow non-sighthound dogs to compete officially. This also includes sighthound mixes and unrecognized sighthound breeds. Lure Coursing Instinct (LCI) is a program developed in partnership with ASFA to provide lure coursing opportunities for non-sighthound breeds and mixed-breed dogs.
Dogs compete in a structured format, earning scores and titles while running courses designed with both safety and enjoyment in mind. LCI places an emphasis on individual performance, with dogs running solo rather than in braces, allowing each dog’s drive, focus, and enthusiasm to be evaluated on its own merits. Courses are adaptable to accommodate a wide range of breeds, sizes, and running styles.
LCI also encourages a welcoming and supportive atmosphere, making it an excellent entry point for teams who are new to lure coursing, as well as a rewarding venue for experienced competitors looking to earn titles with their non-sighthound dogs.
